BrainRX® Cognitive Training and Autism Support
Autism is a lifetime neurological condition, which typically reveals itself during early childhood, impacting 1 in every 160 people globally regardless of gender, race or socioeconomic status.
Autism Awareness Month strives to spread knowledge and information about autism on both a local and global scale. Throughout the month of April, autism-friendly events and educational activities are designed to increase knowledge, promote acceptance, and foster worldwide support for autistic individuals and their families.
What is the Autism Spectrum?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), ASD refers to “a range of conditions characterised by varying degrees of impaired social behaviour, communication and language, and a narrow range of interests and activities that are both unique to the individual and carried out repetitively.”
The term Autism Spectrum applies to a range of characteristics in strengths and challenges possessed by each individual living with autism. The stigmatization and discrimination associated with neurological differences remain a substantial obstacle to both diagnosis and treatment of autism. Through education, support, accommodation, and acceptance of autism, people living on the autism spectrum will enjoy equal opportunity and full participation throughout their lives.
Autism is typically characterized by the following characteristics:
- Avoiding eye contact.
- Preferring to be alone rather than engage with others.
- Struggle with understanding other people’s feelings.
- Nonverbal or exhibit delayed language development.
- Echolalia (repeats words or phrases over and over).
- Becomes upset by small changes in routine and surroundings.
- Possesses highly restrictive interests.
- Repetitive behaviors (such as spinning, rocking or flapping).
- Unusual or intense reactions to smells, sounds, tastes, lights, textures, colors (or a combination).
As autism is a wide spectrum, it’s important to note that each individual living with autism may exhibit some or many of the above-mentioned symptoms. Additionally, the degree to which they exhibit their symptoms may vary in severity.
Cognitive Training and Autism
For individuals living with autism, cognitive training can be life-changing. When cognitive skills are reinforced, children and adults with autism think, learn, and perform mentally at school, work, and life with greater ease. While we do not diagnose or treat autism, our programs have improved the cognitive performance of clients with many diagnoses—including clients of all ages who are on the autism spectrum.
Whether you have are an adult or child living with autism, the professionals at the Brain Workshop can offer assistance. As a certified BrainRX® center, we offer the best in personalised brain-based training for individuals ages 6 to adult.
BrainRX® is a customised, brain-based learning program designed to treat the root of the problem, promoting neurological growth to help individuals struggling with cognitive function. As one of the largest one-on-one brain training companies in the world, BrainRX® is designed specifically to support autism. Participants experience unmatched results with their unique “personal trainer” approach.
BrainRX® Autism Results
Over a six-year period, 857 children and adults on the autism spectrum participated in cognitive learning study. Participants were measured for their cognitive skills before and after brain training. The results were astounding!
Among the clients diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder who participated in cognitive brain-based training, dramatic improvements were observed in “IQ, long-term memory, broad attention, and auditory processing.” Additionally, long-term memory skills improved an average of 20 percentile points following cognitive brain training. The average gain in age-equivalent cognitive skill performance was 3.1 years!
Other cognitive learning improvements included the following:
- IQ – 3.8% increase
- Working Memory – 3.6% increase
- Learning & Reasoning – 3.2 % increase
- Processing Speeds – 2.0% increase
- Auditory Processing – 5.5% increase
- Visual Processing – 4.5% increase
- Long-term memory – 4.1% increase
- Broad Attention – 3.2% increase
